Some Indian scientists have patented their herbal gel for affordable, effective treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis.
Today, there are treatments in the market, but these available treatment options, which include UV radiation therapy, seem costly, and may give the user some side effects.
Till now, psoriasis does not still have a cure, but Shoolini University scientists have developed a plant-based gel that contains a natural chemical compound, which could be less expensive.
Dr. Poonam Negi, Charul Rathore, and Ishita Sharma harnessed thymoquinone’s known therapeutic effects into a gel that can provide instant relief from the itchy rashes and thereby improve a patient’s quality of life
Traditionally, Sativa oil works in treating skin problems, which includes psoriatic rashes. However, Dr. Negi reveals that:
This oil contains low thymoquinone levels, which forces patients to apply large amounts of it. Our developed gel, however, maintains therapeutically effective concentrations of thymoquinone at the psoriatic lesions.Dr. Negi
The product was shown to be more effective than the oil. Pre-clinically, it has been tested for its safety and efficacy; although, clinical trials are not yet concluded.
Due to the affordable price of this patented gel, it has become very attractive. Sales of psoriasis treatments worldwide have been on the rise at about 7% yearly and by 2025, it should reach US$ 13.1 billion.
Dr. Negi has predicted that their therapy would cost less than $7 monthly in mild psoriasis cases and below $15 for moderate-to-severe psoriasis cases.
They revealed they are in the second stage of the product’s development and that they are searching for an industry partner, and hope to get this to the market within 2 years. We will surely give an update when they do.
