The US President has signed a proclamation to prohibit any travel from India and this ban will come into effect on May 4. This is as a result of the high surge in the cases of coronavirus in India.
Kamala Harris, the US vice president, talked about the travel ban placed on India and how the White House will help India fight this battle.
It is important to note, as I said earlier, that we have a responsibility as the United States in particular, as it relates to the people that we have partnered with over the years, to step up when people are in a time of need.Harris said in a statement she made on Friday
She further revealed that the U.S. will give out some supplies to India to help them fight the virus. They hope that these supplies will provide some relief for the Indian government.
Travel from India will be restricted due to the high coronavirus cases and multiple variants spreading in the country. The US COVID-19 Response Team, National Security personnel and Medical practitioners advised Joe Biden to implement the ban.
However, American citizens, their spouses and children below age 21 are exempted from this ban. The exemption is also applicable to students, immigrants, academicians, and journalist. Those travelling for a reasonable purpose like public response, are also exempted. However, they will have to obey all travel guidelines outlined by the CDC.
