A Taxidermist has been jailed for 56 weeks for trading rhino horns and tiger teeth illegally. Aaron Halstead, a Taxidermist who hails from Burnley, Lancashire, has been given a 56-week jail term after he used false documents to trade rhino horns to ‘rich’ buyers in China for £63,000.
Halstead had also illegally purchased tiger skulls from a dealer based in the Netherlands, this transaction brought him to the attention of Dutch Police. This is the second time Halstead would be probed, having previously been given a 24-week jail term for purchasing a cheetah’s skull, three sperm whale teeth, and a dolphin.
When this happened, the authorities paid attention to it after he posted a series of pictures on his website of himself posing with his wild animal collection. When the Dutch police noticed that he had a conversation with a Netherland dealer, they took it up and sentenced him to 56 weeks in jail.

Halstead was charged shortly after his home was raided last year. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to nine different offenses against the Control of Trade in Endangered Species.
According to this legislation, it is unlawful to involve in the trade of anything that is made from a species listed as endangered by the European Commission. His offenses included offering a black rhino skull and sperm whale tooth for sale, selling and transporting black rhino horns, acquiring tiger skulls for a commercial purpose, and keeping elephant tusks for sale.
