What a heroic act as a shepherd saves 6 runners who partook in the Chinese Ultramarathon. Zhu  Keming must have been at the right place at the right time when ice storm felled six runners partaking in a cross-country race in north-western Gansu province of China.

This shepherd braved the freezing temperatures to save three women and three men. Zhu was attending to his flock when the temperatures dropped and hail started pounding the terrain. When the shepherd noticed this, he ran to a small cave he had been using to store supplies to seek shelter.

Then Zhu saw one of the runners in distress. The runner seemed to be in pain. Kind Zhu immediately attended to the man and warmed him up in the cave. Zhu then left to attend to other runners. Most runners wore lightweight clothing since there were not prepared for the quick change in the weather.

I want to say how grateful I am to the man who saved me.  Without him, I would have been left out there.

As this shepherd saves 6 runners, he is lauded as a hero, although, Zhu doesn’t like the whole fuss. He maintains that he just did an ordinary thing a normal person would do. However, the athletes Zhu saved and their families have disagreed, stating that having the courage to do something extraordinary.
