The Russian cabinet has nullified a bill that would have banned same-sex marriage. The cabinet rejected amendments to the Family Code of Russia which would have banned same-sex adoption (which are already outlawed), and would also have legally erased trans people.

A bloc of anti-LGBT+ lawmakers designed some policies masterminded by Vladimir Putin at the earlier part of this year to support the referendum.

This helped Putin achieve victory in July, and as such, he was able to rule until 2036. This will open a path for the architect of the gay propaganda bill in 2012, Yelena Mizulina, and other lawmakers to pitch a revised family code thick with anti-LGBT+ policies shortly after.

According to a draft ruling obtained by TASS, ministers have snuffed out the revisions of Mizulina. Mizulina’s draft law which “aimed at strengthening the institution of the family” was rejected by Russia’s Government Commission on Legislative Activities.

The main idea is that such significant changes to the legislation can’t be carried out in a hurry, without broad expert and public discussion.
