The ‘move for hunger’ initiative set up by a New Jersey moving company has helped to solve the issues of food insecurity in the United States. According to the person behind this initiative, Adam Lowy, people dispose of a lot of food any time they are moving and thus the amount of food can increase supply to local food banks.

Adam Lowy now ensures that food left behind by people moving is sent to the local food supply. This single act will help food banks in the state.

Moving’s stressful, you know? It’s not a fun experience, there’s a lot going on. And we started by asking a very simple question. Do you want to donate your food when you move?

That particular question Lowy asked in 2009 resulted in the creation of the ‘Move for Hunger’ initiative. This initiative connects food banks with moving companies in their area. This helps to reach out to several homeowners and tenants to donate their food before changing their addresses.

Once Move for Hunger knows about anyone who is about to move, the initiative provides a large plastic bag and a box to collect any food people wouldn’t like to take to their new home. The ‘move for Hunger’ initiative operates across Canada and the United States.
