Los Angeles City Council will be renaming a street after Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant. On Monday, Herb J. Wesson Jr.,  the president of Los Angeles City Council announced that a part of Figueroa Street will be named after the legend.

The street which will be renamed after Bryant sits a block away from Olympic Blvd. Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest players of Los Angeles Lakers.

Figueroa Street will soon be Kobe Bryant Blvd. Between Olympic and MLK.

Kobe’s legacy is bigger than basketball. #KobeBryantBlvd will be a reminder to everyone, young and old who drive down it, there is no obstacle too big and that with the #Mambamentality , anything is possible.

Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Giana died in a helicopter crash which claimed the lives of mine people. Bryant who was supposed to be 42 on Sunday was remembered by his loved ones on social media. Same thing was also done for Giana on her birthday.

This isn’t the first time a street near Staples will be named after Lakers legend. One of the streets which borders Staples Center is named after Francis Dayle “Chick” Hearn, Lakers broadcaster. The broadcaster called games for 42 years. Hearn died in 2002.

Chick Hearn Ct and Kobe Bryant Blvd will now intersect just outside Staples Center. The Los Angeles will be playing against the Portland Trail Blazers tonight and they will be wearing “Black Mamba” jerseys to pay a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter.

It appears that Los Angeles is not the only one celebrating Bryant this month. Nike has also announced a one-week event “Mamba Week,” which began on his birthday Aug. 23. Bryant’s 20-year NBA career is celebrated with programming and retail launches this week.
