India boatman saved a baby floating in a wooden box at the banks of Ganges River. The 21-day-baby was kept in a box decorated with pictures of Hindu deities. Incensed sticks were also put besides the horoscope chart of the baby.

A red cloth was used to wrap the baby and there was a paper that read “Daughter of the Ganga.” Gullu Chaudhary was in Ghaziput town, he had gone to the Ganges River, when he heard the cry of a baby.

No one was ready to go and check. I rushed and on opening the box I found a baby there.

Chaudhary took the girl out of the box. The baby was then admitted to a hospital. Chaudhary said he would like to raise the girl as he considered her a gift from the gods. He said that Mother Ganges gifted him the baby.

Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister commended the India boatman for saving the baby and gave him welfare benefits.  The government has promised to take good care of the baby. The baby is in good condition presently and she is being observed by doctors.

The police will carry out their investigation to locate the baby’s parents. In India, abandoning a child is a big offence.
