It was almost as if Brooklyn the pooch had broken a mirror several years ago, triggering a bad luck superstition that would leave her locked up in a kennel and bumped from foster home to foster home for nearly seven years.

You see, the beautiful, sweet canine spent over 2,500 days at New Jersey’s Hamilton Township Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. But all that changed, thanks to one social media post on August 10th. Word got out that Brooklyn needed a home. And mere days later, her new family would find her.

According to the adoption center, Brooklyn’s change of luck wasn’t just by chance. “It takes a village – from the volunteers, staff, her foster dad, and everyone who shared her all over social media.”

#AdoptDontShop has well over 37 million posts on Instagram and is more than a passing trend. It’s a way of life for many families, one that gives unloved animals a chance at a better life. And it often changes the lives of their owners as well.
