With the pandemic, we find ourselves in unprecedented, hard times. But sometimes a big company – like Walmart – does something extraordinary to lift the Average Joe’s spirits.

Starting August 14, 160 Walmart stores across the United States will transform their parking lots into drive-in movie theaters that will screen movies curated by its event partner the Tribeca Film Festival – FOR FREE.

This is an excellent way to enjoy a film outside your own home – with no contact – but still feel part of something bigger than yourself.

Says Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s chief customer officer, “We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months…and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories. The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”

There will be a wide range of movie genres to choose from – inspirational films, blockbusters, nostalgic favorites, true stories, animated features, and more. You can choose from movies like Friday Night Lights, The Karate Kid, Black Panther, Back to the Future, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, Spider-Man, E.T., Ghostbusters, Men in Black, Cars, The Lego Movie, and Madagascar just to name a few.

Need more persuasion? Drew Barrymore virtually hosts each event and will appear live in person at one surprise location. There will be surprise virtual and/or in-person appearances made by big names like Jennifer Garner and LeBron James at select showings.

If you don’t want to bring homemade popcorn, opt for Walmart’s pickup or delivery services to stock up on your favorite concession stand items!

The screenings will be going on until October 21, so find dates and movies at a Walmart Drive-in location near you! You need to reserve a space on their site. Once confirmed, customers receive an email with a QR code, which grants their vehicle entry on the designated date of the screening.
