You may think that there’s little gold left to be found on the iconic goldfields of Victoria. However, these beliefs have been proved wrong after a fortune was dug up around Tarnagulla, the western side of Bendigo.

These friends from Victoria didn’t just unearth one giant gold nugget, but two. Both nuggets weigh 3.5 kilos, and when calculated at the current prices of gold, it was worth $350,000. They can even earn 30% more if they sell these nuggets to a collector.

I thought we were in for a chance. It was in a bit of virgin ground, which means it’s untouched and hasn’t been mined. We pull the material out and put it up on the surface – and then we push it out very thinly and we detect it that way. We can recover more gold that way, and it’s a better way to do it and a safer way to mine.

A Very Significant Find

Ethan revealed that, over the last four years, he has probably found and picked “thousands” gold pieces.

These are definitely one of the most significant finds. To have two large chunks in one day is quite amazing. But for small pieces, I’ve picked up thousands. I’m very lucky like that

It is not a feeling you can describe. It is something you never forget. It’s a sense of relief and achievement and accomplishment. It is a feeling like no other. Nobody has seen these pieces of gold for millions of years and we’re the first people to lay eyes on them. It is something that we love doing.
