Europe’s Space Agency reveals its plans to hire a disabled astronaut. This has never happened in the world. A lot of aspiring para-astronauts are applying for the role. The space program closed its recent recruitment for astronauts.

About 22,000 applicants were received. The European Space Agency is experiencing tougher competition from the likes of  Blue Origin of Jeff Bezos and Space X of Elon Musk.

He outlined strategies to restructure the agency as a better one ready to partner with venture capitalists to develop start-ups in Europe that could rival the Silicon Valley players one day. The challenges are great, ESA made a budget of 7 billion Euros, which is one-third of the budget of NASA.

This year’s job received more applications, which is three times more than the applications received ten years ago. Europe’s Space Agency promised to design technologies to ensure disabled people play a full part.
