An electronic nose that detects Covid Infections has been developed. This 3D-printed device can sniff out Covid infections within 80 seconds. This device can be used at sports grounds, offices, airports, and factories.
Professor Naom Sobel, the project leader, maintained that the electric nose gets a pattern of smell in every odor. This pattern of smell is referred to as the smell of Covid-19. The pandemic can be controlled when there is a quick diagnosis. With this device, people can travel and attend mass gatherings without the fear of getting infected.
The electronic nose which is called Pen3 can detect volatile organic compounds in the nasal passage. Experiments were carried out on 503 people, the device detected that 27 had Covid-19. The experiments revealed that the device was about 94% accurate; this shows the efficacy of this device.

Pen 3 is a 3D-printed electronic nose that features a gas unit and different sensors. This device is connected to software and fits into the nostril. According to Sober, when compounds have contact with the sensors, it leads to an exchange of oxygen that causes a change in electrical conductivity.
Dogs are also capable of sniffing out Covid’s smell, however, the scale of the problem makes them not realistic. Those who were involved in the initial tests were given the sampling valve and asked to hold it against their nostrils opening for a few seconds.
They were instructed to breathe through their open mouth. These participants then drove 30 feet to go through the official PCR Covid-19 test.
