“It’s a bad day for California mice.” So says Hollywood star Dennis Quaid.
That’s because he’s now the proud papa of a six-year-old black cat named…well…Dennis Quaid. And no, this is not the story of a self-absorbed star naming his pet after himself.
Quaid (the actor) – who is currently co-hosing the podcast “The Pet Show” with Jimmy Jellinek – heard a local report that a rescue cat bearing his name was up for adoption.
Quaid (the cat) had been at the Lynchburg Humane Society in Virginia for over a year waiting for his forever home.
But on hearing the news, the actor knew he had to do something about it. The Quaids met over Zoom, and Jellinek sealed the deal and picked the cat up this past weekend to bring him to his new Hollywood home at the actor’s podcast studio.
According to Danielle Ulmer, the shelter’s adoption center manager, they couldn’t believe it when the actor reached out about adopting the cat. It’s also inspired a lot of community involvement with suggestions for celebrity names to be designated to other residents at the shelter.
As for Quaid (the actor), he says he’s out to “save all the Dennis Quaids of the world.”
