The combination of a daily protein shake and exercise has been discovered to make people stronger and smarter, according to a study carried out by researchers at the University of Illinois. According to popular belief, exercise helps to boost the brain and the body.

However, a study has revealed that regular exercise and a protein shake can give both physical and cognitive benefits. The researchers studied the effects of a 12-week exercise regimen on about 148 active-duty Air Force men. 50% of these participants received a twice-daily nutrient beverage that contained Omega-3 fatty acid, phospholipids, vitamins, and other macronutrients.

Both groups improved in both cognitive and physical function. The findings reveal that the participants were assigned to the two groups. The exercise regimen had the combination of both high-intensity interval aerobics fitness and strength training. Another group consumed the nutritional beverage while the other took a placebo beverage that lacked the added nutrients.

Neither the participants nor the researchers had any idea who took the placebo or nutrient-enriched beverage. The exercise improved the stability, strength, and endurance of participants. The participants had improved episodic memory and processed information better at the end of 12 weeks, according to Aaron Barbey, a psychology professor at the University of Illinois.

Those who also consumed the nutritional supplement saw all of these improvements and more. For example, they were better able to retain new information in their working memory and had quicker responses on tests of fluid intelligence than those taking the placebo.

The physical training reduces the percentage of body fat and increased the oxygen efficiency of the participant. The airmen performed much better than they had on different measures of cognitive function.  Therefore, daily protein shake and exercising the body are great for the body and the brain.
