A missing cat reunites with family three years after California mudslide. The owner of the cat was dead in the mudslide.
The mudslide was a result of heavy rain on hills where wildfires had burned. 23 people lost their lives in this mudslide that happened on January 9, 2018. The mudslide caused widespread damage and over 1,400 Montecito homes got damaged, according to the Associated Press
It was assumed that Patches had passed away along with her owner Josie who was, tragically, a victim of the mudslides.ASAP

Last month, someone found Patches as a stray cat and took her to the shelter. Thanks to Patches’ microchip. ASAP identified her owner as Josie along with her partner, Norm, who survived the mudslide.
Patches got missing when the Montecito Debris Flow in January 2018. That day was a red-letter day for that community. People assumed that Patches had died with her owner Josie.
So when someone brought a stray calico cat was to ASAP in December 2020, people were shocked to find out that she was the long lost Patches.
Josie and her partner Norm have been supporters of ASAP for a long time. Luckily for Josie and Norm, they survived the mudslide. When ASAP discovered that Josie registered Patches’ microchip in her name, they were able to contact their family and ensure the missing cat reunites with them.
